Navigating to ledger.com/start provides the genuine, cryptographically authenticated pathway to configure your hardware wallet. When initializing a brand-new device—whether a Ledger Stax, Ledger Flex, Ledger Nano X, or Nano S Plus—securing your seed phrase and obtaining authentic companion software directly from the verified source is your primary defense against phishing and malicious software tampering.
Once downloaded via ledger.com/start, the Ledger Wallet application guides you through an automated cryptographic Genuine Check. This unique handshake between the certified Secure Element chip (CC EAL6+) on your physical device and Ledger's verification servers confirms that your hardware has never been modified, opened, or pre-configured by an untrusted third party.
During the setup workflow, your device generates a unique 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase directly on its isolated physical screen. Never enter these 24 words into any computer keyboard, website, smartphone note app, or digital camera.
